Pearson's r measures linear association. The CSV includes p-values adjusted for multiple testing (Benjamini-Hochberg), because a matrix of 6 variables involves 15 tests.

How to Use the Correlation Matrix Generator

  1. 1

    Paste your data

    Variables as columns (or rows).

  2. 2

    Choose Pearson or Spearman

    Linear or rank-based association.

  3. 3

    Download

The heatmap and a table of all pairs.

Reading a correlation matrix

A correlation matrix shows the correlation coefficient between each pair of variables. Values near +1 or −1 indicate strong positive or negative association; values near 0 indicate little linear (or monotonic) association.

Many pairs are tested at once, so p-values should be adjusted for multiple comparisons; the download includes Benjamini-Hochberg adjusted values.

Pearson or Spearman?

Use Pearson for roughly linear relationships between continuous variables and Spearman for ranks, skewed data or outliers.
